Pegatron Technology originally expected Acer's orders for notebooks in 2012 to reach five million units, but so far Acer has released orders for only 600,000 units, according to industry sources.

Asustek is currently the largest client of Pegatron with its notebook outsourcing to Pegatron in 2012 to still account for 50% of Asustek's total orders.

Although Pegatron did not achieve its expected performance in the notebook ODM business in the first half, chairman Jason Cheng is still confident about the business unit's future potential. Pegatron currently has five notebook clients, although the company is simply the backup maker for these players, the company is aiming to become a regular supplier of these clients in 2012.

It is expected that the Google Chrome operating system will be heading to notebooks by the end of the month. It will not moral be appearing on Acer and HP machines, but Google will also be making their own notebook.

Google’s Chrome notebook is expected to be manufactured by Inventec with primary shipments to reach 60,000-70,000 units. The Google Chrome notebook will call attention to an ARM-based dais and will not be selling through retail channels.
